Anthony Cowland

Anthony Cowland is an accomplished British artist and illustrator whose work spans aviation, military, maritime, automotive, wildlife and landscape subjects. Born in Hove, Sussex, and raised partly overseas in Barbados and Singapore, Anthony developed an early fascination with drawing, painting and aviation before studying at Brighton College of Art, Architecture & Design, where he achieved a Double First-Class Honours degree.

Following an early career in architecture and design, Anthony became a full-time professional artist in 1990. Aviation has remained a central part of his career, with his paintings recognised for their meticulous detail, technical accuracy and strong sense of atmosphere.

Anthony has undertaken painting and illustration commissions with the British Armed Forces, building a wealth of first-hand knowledge that informs his military and aviation work. His paintings cover subjects from the First and Second World Wars through to the post-war era, alongside civil and general aviation, and have been exhibited in major London exhibitions and held in collections internationally.

A Fellow of the Guild of Aviation Artists (FGAvA) and a former Chairman of the organisation, Anthony has received numerous awards in the UK and USA. His distinctions include the Guild of Aviation Artists Medal, while his paintings have been named Aviation Painting of the Year at the Guild's Annual Exhibition on three occasions.

Alongside aviation, Anthony continues to paint maritime, military, automotive, wildlife and landscape subjects, bringing the same attention to observation, accuracy and craftsmanship across each field.
