The ancient Norman monastery on Mont St. Michel provides the majestic backdrop as a group of Me109s race across the coast returning to their forward base in northern France after a fighter sweep across the English Channel in early 1941.

During the spring of 1941 almost all of the great Luftwaffe fighter leaders duelled across the English Channel on a daily basis with RAF Fighter Command. But the Abbey of Mont St Michel has seen it all before: built by the Normans on a solid rock of granite rising 250 feet out of the sea, this ancient monastery has witnessed conflict over almost a thousand years. It now plays backdrop to Robert Taylor’s iconic painting.

Originally published in 1993, this long sold out print carries the original signatures of FOUR of the great Luftwaffe Aces and to make this piece even MORE special, a stunning Deluxe Remarque by Richard Taylor has been completed in the lower margin of the print!

What exactly is a Legacy Remarque?

Such has been the demand for Robert’s work over the years that there remain a limited number of prints allocated for Remarque editions that are still awaiting completion. Robert, along with his exclusive publisher the Military Gallery, have released a very limited number of prints to be re-purposed as LEGACY REMARQUES with the original drawing completed not by Robert but by his talented son Richard. To avoid any confusion, Richard will personally sign each Legacy Remarque that he completes, and the edition will be clearly identified and numbered as a ‘Legacy Remarque’.

Along with artists Robert Taylor and Richard Taylor, this print carries the original signatures of FOUR highly-regarded Luftwaffe Aces:

  • Generalleutnant Hannes Trautloft Knight's Cross
  • Oberst Herbert Ihlefeld KC with Oak Leaves and Swords
  • Generalmajor Dietrich Hrabak KC WITH OAK LEAVES
  • Generalleutnant Adolf Galland KC with Oak Leaves Swords and Diamonds
