A striking conceptual original by Drew Harrison, celebrating the Royal Australian Air Force’s long association with the General Dynamics F-111.

Australia selected the F-111C in the 1960s as a replacement for the Canberra bomber, with the aircraft eventually entering RAAF service in 1973. Over nearly four decades it became one of the most distinctive aircraft in Australian military aviation, combining long-range strike capability with variable-geometry wings and speeds in excess of Mach 2. In Australian service it became affectionately known as the ‘Pig’, a reference to its long nose and terrain-following role.

Drew brings those different elements together in a bold, layered composition. Multiple F-111s overlap with flashes of colour, mechanical detail and the unmistakable imagery of the Pig, while the dramatic ‘dump and burn’ display appears throughout the painting in bursts of flame. That spectacle, created by dumping fuel into the aircraft’s exhaust plume, became one of the defining public images of the RAAF F-111 and helped give the aircraft an enduring place in Australian popular culture.

The result is deliberately less conventional than a traditional aviation scene, combining aircraft portraiture, symbolism and movement into a powerful tribute to one of Australia’s most memorable military aircraft.
