WINTER SWANSONG - Original Oil on Canvas
by Anthony Saunders
P51 Mustangs of the 4th Fighter Group head back to base, to Debden, in Essex.
"Anyone who knows the P51, would know that this particular depiction is from the latter stages of the war. The paint scheme of many of the USAAF Mustangs became more elaborate and colourful as the war drew on. By early 1945 most fighter groups had incredibly striking aircraft.
For this painting I wanted to depict two P51s flying low across a winter landscape. I knew red and silver would work perfectly, so I opted for Mustangs of the 4th Fighter Group. The main aircraft is that of Lt. Col. Jack Oberhansly, with his very particular nose art." - Anthony Saunders
