Falklands Signing Event - 30th January

Come along to meet some remarkable veterans who took part in the conflict!

Our special guests include:

 

Senior Air Craftsman EMLYN BIRNIE - joined the Royal Air Force in 1980. After engineering training at RAF Halton (Flight Line Mechanic and later Aircraft Electrician), served with the Harrier aircraft GR3, T4 and GR5, at RAF Wittering and Gutersloh, north Germany. Detached from Gutersloh with 3(F) Squadron to the Falklands, June - October 1982. Awarded the South Atlantic Medal (without Rosette) after leaving the RAF in 1989.

Former Intelligence Officer MARK ROBERTS MBE IPM – serving in the Royal Navy Defence Intelligence from 1977-2005, he completed a variety of sensitive appointments including Defence Intelligence Counter Terrorism Cell and Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre requiring occasional short deployments to high risk areas and liaison with overseas governments, military and intelligence agencies. During this time he served on 4 warships (mainly frigates) including Naval Party 1810 and HMS Danae in the Falklands. Hs multiple awards include the MBE, NATO Medals for the former Yugoslavia and Kosovo and the Queen's Jubilee Medal.

Petty Officer JACK ROUTLEDGE – serving with the Royal Navy, he completed two tours of the Falkland Islands. During the first tour he served on board HMS Hermes, the flagship of the British forces, and was on RFA Fort Grange for his second tour, the lead ship of her class of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. He also witnessed the attack on the SS Atlantic Conveyor on 25 May 1982.

Leading Seaman NICHOLAS HEAL – joining the Royal Navy in 1979 he served in multiple operational theatres including the Falklands Conflict 1982 aboard HMS Diomedes and HMS Hermes. This was followed by two further deployments, a Gulf patrol in the Adriatic and also Sierra Leone. He then served as an instructor at Fire School, small arms school adventure training sailing centre with two further Gibraltar Tours before retiring in 2003.

And post Falklands conflict veteran:

Squadron Leader PETER BROMBLEY – served as a Pilot on the Tornado F3 on 5(AC) Sqn and 43(F) Sqn before a tour at RAF Valley, teaching on 74 and 19 Sqn Tac Weapons Units. He returned to the F3 on 43(F) Sqn and the Operational Conversion Unit, 56(R) Sqn as OC StanEval. He flew operational missions over Bosnia, Iraq and the Falkland Islands (post conflict), including commanding 1435 Flight. He currently serves as a military accident investigator.

Our guests are happy to sign autographs for collectors and items purchased at the event over £60 can be signed free of charge.
