STEVENTON VE 80 CELEBRATIONS: 8th - 11th May
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2 and we are delighted to be hosting this celebration on behalf of the Steventon Village! Join us at the gallery between Thursday 8th and Sunday 11th May for a variety of events and remembrance services, including plenty of music and dancing!
Schedule of Events
Due to the number of displays and activities, parking on site will be limited and we recommend that if you are able, residents walk or cycle to the celebrations.
Thursday 8th
10.00 – 16.00 School activities in the Aces High Gallery.
19.00 The ringing of the church bells.
20.45 Gather on Steventon Hill. Enjoy bacon baps and refreshments, and the singing of I Vow to Thee my Country.
21.30 The lighting of the VE80 beacon on Steventon Hill.
Friday 9th
10.00 – 16.00 Aces High Gallery open to residents and Steventon History Society exhibition. Arrival of military vehicles and reenactor groups. The build-up begins!
Saturday 10th
10.00 – 16.00 Aces High Gallery open to residents and the wider public.
10.00 WW2 Disco
11.00 – 15.00 Have a go on Steventon Bell Ringers’ mobile belfry!
14:30 The Vale Choral Society lead us in the songs of the Forties.
All day WWII aircraft fly-by, static displays of military vehicles and equipment from the era, talk with reenactors, jeep rides, food stalls, ice creams, and visit all of the stalls representing the village organisations and societies.
Sunday 11th
10.00 – 16.00 Aces High Gallery open to residents and the wider public.
11:00 World renowned military and aviation artist Anthony Saunders launches the release of FOUR brand new Limited Edition prints and will be available for signing!
12.00 – 13.00 Drayton Community Choir - lead us in patriotic and community songs.
The Silhouette Show will entertain throughout the afternoon with wartime songs.
14.00 – 14.30 A short service of remembrance and thanksgiving supported by members of the Steventon & Drayton choirs.
14.30 Community Prom Concert led by Steventon Choral Society.
15.30 Ringing of a quarter-peal by the Steventon Bell Ringers.
All day Aircraft fly-by, static displays of military vehicles and equipment from the era, meet WW2 veterans, talk with reenactors, jeep rides, trade stalls, ice creams, and visit all of the stalls representing the village organisations and societies.
Please note: The scheduled timings may change through the weekend and please keep an eye out for more VE Day activity at other locations around the village over this weekend! All activities, especially air and static displays, are weather-dependent.
