The roll-call of names includes highly-decorated Aces and most distinguished aircrew. Legendary figures such as John ‘Cat’s Eyes’ Cunningham who was one of the RAF’s top night-fighter Aces, and Peter Townsend who was perhaps the most highly-regarded fighter leader and later served as equerry to both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. High-scoring Aces such as Don Laubman (15 victories), ‘Paddy’ Barthropp (5 victories) and Russell Bannock (11 victories) to name but a few. Alongside wartime aviators who later rose through the ranks such as Air Chief Marshal Sir Lewis Hodges, Marshal of the RAF Sir Michael Beetham and Air Marshal Sir Ivor Broom.
These men did not just fly during the great aerial battles of World War Two, they are indelibly linked to the history books forevermore.
Individually written personal histories…
Every one of these famous names personally wrote their own notes, highly accurate biographies in their words about their wartime activity and achievements. Each aviator provides exciting graphical descriptions of their most memorable combat, their choice of favourite aircraft flown, and much more. Every profile even contains a personally selected photo. Only when they were happy did each veteran personally hand sign and authenticate every sheet displaying their heartfelt transcript.
Rare opportunity...
The individual profile documents were created by the Military Gallery back in the 1980’s with direct input from the veterans, all of whom are sadly no longer with us. If something similar was written and signed by the great aviators of the First World War, personalities such as Albert Ball and Eddie Rickenbacker, we can only imagine what such a collection would be worth. In years to come this album of World War Two aviators will be fondly considered an item of unprecedented historic value for any collector or military enthusiast.
