LANCASTER - Framed Collector's Piece
by Frank Wootton
Frank Wootton’s "Lancaster" depicts one of the most famous aerial operations of World War II—the Dambusters Raid (Operation Chastise) on the night of 16–17 May 1943.
With Guy Gibson and Mick Martin heroically drawing enemy fire, Dinghy Young’s Upkeep ‘bouncing bomb’ was spot on target with Gibson later noting it made ‘three good bounces’ before detonating against the dam wall.
As one of the leading aviation artists of the 20th century, and arguably the Godfather of the genre, Frank Wootton masterfully blends realism with atmosphere, making this a highly collectible and historically significant piece.
With this print now extremely rare to come by on the Secondary Market, we're pleased to say this copy is in excellent condition and framed to full conservation standards!
Along with Frank Wootton, 'Lancaster' has been personally signed, on release in the 80s, by the mastermind behind the bouncing bomb:
