This highly collectible matching-pair of Limited Edition prints by Frank Wootton were published in 1977 by Blaze Fine Arts to benefit the R.A.F. Museum Appeal!

'LANCASTER' depicts one of the most famous aerial operations of World War II—the Dambusters Raid (Operation Chastise) on the night of 16–17 May 1943.

With Guy Gibson and Mick Martin heroically drawing enemy fire, Dinghy Young’s Upkeep ‘bouncing bomb’ was spot on target with Gibson later noting it made ‘three good bounces’ before detonating against the dam wall.

As one of the leading aviation artists of the 20th century, and arguably the Godfather of the genre, Frank Wootton masterfully blends realism with atmosphere, making this a highly collectible and historically significant piece.

With this print now extremely rare to come by on the Secondary Market, we're pleased to say this copy is in excellent condition and has been personally signed in pencil on release by Frank Wootton and the mastermind behind the bouncing bomb:

  • Sir BARNES WALLIS CBE FRS RDI FRAeS

'HALIFAX' depicts probably the most famous Halifax ever made, an aircraft that successfully completed 128 operations with 158 Squadron, and survived. That Halifax, LV907, is better known as ‘Friday the 13th’

On the night of 11 / 12 March 1941, Halifax bombers went into action for the first time when aircraft from 35 Squadron bombed the docks at Le Havre. The following night the squadron took part in a raid on Hamburg, with the Halifax becoming the first of the four- engine ‘heavies’ to bomb Germany, nearly a year before its illustrious counterpart, the Lancaster, entered the fray.

Personally signed in pencil by Frank Wootton and one of the most famous senior officers of the Second World War:

  • Marshal of the RAF Sir Arthur T. Harris BT, GCB OBE DD
