Commemorating the Battle for Malta

The RAF’s desperate fight to retain control of the diminutive Mediterranean island, and the defiant courage of the people of Malta, is one of the epic stories of WWII.

9 May 2021

With the bitter air battles culminating in May 1942, Malta became one of the most bombed places on earth. In tribute to all those who served and the heroism of the Maltese defences, we're proud to feature three framed collector's pieces that act as lasting tributes.

MALTA - THE TURNING POINT

by Anthony Saunders

As the battle for Malta rages, a force of Luftwaffe raiders comprising Ju87s, Ju88s and Bf109s are met by the largest reception of RAF fighters to date as Spitfires and Hurricanes defend Grand Harbour in Valletta, 10 May 1942. Sergeant Paul Brennan of 249 Squadron shoots down a Ju87 as the Maltese defences put up a huge barrage of flak to protect their island. The Luftwaffe will never return with such force again.

The print is matted to include a miniature George Cross, the highest military gallantry award in the UK honors system, which was awarded to Malta and the people who showed great heroism and bravery against the Luftwaffe.

THE GALLANT OHIO

by Robert Taylor

During Operation Pedestal, the crippled American tanker SS Ohio limps into port on Malta assisted by Royal Navy destroyers Penn, Bramham and Ledbury. Overhead, Spitfires of 126 and 185 Sqns successfully fend off the desperate attempts to sink her by enemy aircraft. The Ohio’s vital cargo of fuel kept the island’s air defences alive and ultimately Malta was saved.

Alongside featuring matted replica RAF Fighter wings, this Limited Edition print is personally signed by FIVE distinguished veterans representing the Royal Navy, Fleet Air Arm and the RAF who fought for the Defence of Malta and the Malta Convoys... find out who signed it HERE!
