Commemorating The Doolittle Raiders

18th April 1942...

16 April 2021

On 18 April 1942, a small force of sixteen B-25 Mitchell bombers, under the leadership of Lt Col 'Jimmy' Doolittle, set forth on one of the most courageous air raids of WWII. In response to the unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor four months earlier their mission was a direct strike at the heart of Imperial Japan!

We're proud to feature these lasting tributes to this historic raid:

GENERAL 'JIMMY' DOOLITTLE

Part of the Icons of Flight Series by Robert Taylor

Few aviators have had such an impact on the history of flight – Intrepid Pioneer, Record Breaker, Award Winner, Outstanding Aeronautical Engineer or Celebrated Commander could all describe the legendary figure of General Jimmy Doolittle.

The centrepiece of Robert’s portfolio is a fitting tribute to the man who led the first raid on Tokyo, skilfully depicting Doolittle’s B-25 shortly after launch from the pitching deck of the Hornet.
