On this day in history...
On the night of 24 / 25 March 1944 a daring escape took place from Stalag Luft III, a prisoner of war camp holding captured Allied aircrew. The audacious break-out was the largest of its kind during WWII and was forever immortalised by the classic 1963 film 'The Great Escape'!

Published in 2020, this is one of the last copies available which features an imprint from an ORIGINAL stamp created by the forgers in the escape team AND a sample of sand recovered from the site of ‘Tunnel Harry’!
To make it even more special, we've also included an original pencil DOUBLE REMARQUE within the mount, plus the print has been personally hand signed by actor JOHN LEYTON who played Willie Dickes 'The Tunnel King' in the 1963 film 'The Great Escape'. Find out more HERE!

Keith's atmospheric piece depicts the scene as prisoners attempt to make a stealthy dash to the nearby treeline beyond the perimeter fence, but an eagle-eyed sentry raises the alarm and suddenly chaos reigns at the exit of 'Tunnel Harry'.
