Group Captain Sir DOUGLAS BADER

One of the best-known RAF fighter Aces of WWII, Bader’s story was truly inspirational. Having lost both legs in a pre-war flying accident, he refused to believe that his tin leg replacements should prevent him from flying and he later commanded 242 Squadron, the Duxford Wing during the Battle of Britain and later the famous Tangmere Wing.
