Robert Taylor's Final Salute

A sad day for our industry...

5 January 2024

Words cannot express how deeply saddened we are to report the passing of our dear friend and colleague after a short illness. Robert was 77.

From first hosting Robert at an event in 1999, to then becoming his exclusive worldwide publisher in 2003, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside him every day and be surrounded by his glorious artwork that is instantly recognised the world over.

An extremely humble man, throughout his career Robert connected with many people in many different ways, whether in person or through his artwork. We therefore all have our own precious memories and some of my residing thoughts will always be his generosity of time, knowledge on the subject and a unique kindness shown to everyone he met, whether members of staff, avid collectors or passionate enthusiasts. It’s easy to see why he is fondly regarded as the ‘Master’ and many of his contemporaries are the first to call him the greatest ever artist in his field.

Robert was a devoted family man, and with that in mind The Robert Taylor Trust has now been established in conjunction with current Directors of the Military Gallery, his lifelong publisher.

Our thoughts are with his wife Mary and their five children.
