In the months following D-Day, Hawker’s hard-hitting, snub-nosed Typhoon struck terror into the German formations in Normandy. It had transformed into the most potent ground attack aircraft of its day and soon there would be a new development – the Tempest.
With thinner wings, greater range, improved ailerons, a redesigned windscreen and all-round ‘rear vision’ canopy it was a significant improvement that helped the Allies push for victory in Europe.
