APPROACH TO THE MÖHNE DAM - Framed Collector's Piece
by Anthony Saunders
With the threat from Hitler’s increasingly belligerent regime growing, minds within Britain’s Air Ministry had already identified potential targets should the unthinkable happen and war with Germany become a reality. The list included the great dams of western Germany, some of the largest in the world.
Already hailed as a masterpiece of aviation art and one of the most authentic interpretations of events yet created, Anthony captures the moment when the fate of the Möhne dam was sealed.
The print is framed to full conservation standards to include a fragment of a 617 Squadron Avro Lancaster, alongside a fantastic remarque along the border of the print, showing the Lancaster depicted in the print flying over the Dam from a different angle!
Featuring the signatures of the last remaining British Dambuster, and the daughter of Sir Barnes Wallis both of whom were directly involved in the raid:
- Squadron Leader George Johnson MBE DFM
- Dr. Mary Stopes-Roe
