EAGLES AT DAWN - Framed Collectors Piece
by Robert Taylor
Glinting in the sub-zero early morning sunlight as fresh snow begins to fall, Gruppenkommandeur Erich Hartmann leads Me109Gs of I./JG53 as they scramble from the snow covered airstrip at Veszprem in Hungary, February 1945. Their mission is to intercept waves of Russian fighters and bombers in the skies above Czechoslovakia in a last ditch attempt to repel the impending invasion as the war on the Eastern Front enters its final phase.
Robert’s dramatic piece pays tribute to the highest-scoring Ace in history – Erich Hartmann. Nicknamed ‘the Blond Knight’ by his colleagues, Hartmann scored all of his 352 aerial victories with two groups, JG52 and JG53 – the unit depicted in Robert’s famous Masterwork.
His record is likely to stand forever and it’s rare that were able to offer pieces signed by him – in fact this is the first copy of EAGLES AT DAWN we’ve had in stock for some time.
Framed to full conservation standards, this superb EIGHT signature Comrades Edition has been personally autographed by Hartmann along with seven further Luftwaffe pilots who flew JG52 or JG53:
