ERNST UDET’S SIEMENS SCHUCKEIT D111 - Original Pencil Drawing
by Robert Taylor
ERNST UDET’S SIEMENS SCHUCKEIT D111
In April 1918, after achieving his 30th aerial victory, Ernst Udet was awarded the prestigious Pour le Mérite and given command of Jagdstaffel 4. Among the aircraft at his disposal, he favoured the newly introduced Siemens-Schuckert D.III, a high-performance fighter that had recently arrived at the front.
Like his former commander Manfred von Richthofen, Udet personalised his aircraft with bold red markings and by the end of the war had amassed 62 victories, making him Germany’s second-highest scoring Ace after the ‘Red Baron’ himself. Unlike Richthofen, however, Udet survived the war making him the highest-scoring Ace to do so.
You might recognise the main drawing which formed the basis of Robert’s sell-out Limited Edition print release titled ‘Jasta Leader’ and it’s easy to see why Robert was so fond of the piece.
✅ From Robert’s own studio, this original drawing represents a rare opportunity to acquire a unique piece of aviation art history!
