HURRICANES OF 242 SQN - Original Pencil Drawing
by Robert Taylor
An original pencil concept drawing by Robert Taylor, depicting Hawker Hurricanes of No. 242 Squadron RAF in formation during the Battle of Britain period.
The squadron became closely associated with Douglas Bader, who took command in June 1940 after its heavy losses during the Battle of France. Under his leadership, 242 Squadron rebuilt quickly and went on to play a prominent role in the Battle of Britain, including operations as part of the Duxford Wing.
The drawing is presented in a bespoke conservation frame incorporating an original autograph of Group Captain Sir DOUGLAS BADER CBE DSO* DFC* DL FRAeS, together with a museum-quality reproduction set of RAF pilot’s wings. Protected by UV99' ArtGlass.
The combination of Robert Taylor’s original concept artwork with a genuine Douglas Bader autograph gives this piece exceptional provenance, uniting one of aviation art’s most important names with one of the most celebrated fighter pilots in RAF history.
