RETURN OF THE BELLE - Framed Collector's Piece
by Robert Taylor
Battle-hardened B-17 the 'Memphis Belle' returns to Bassingbourne, Cambridgeshire, following another arduous daylight mission over occupied Europe, Autumn 1942.
The ‘Belle’ was the first B-17 in the 91st Bomb Group to complete 25 missions. During that time her Captain, Bob Morgan, never lost a single crew member and his gunners were credited with destroying eight enemy fighters.
When Bob Morgan and his crew returned to the U.S. the story became a national legend and the stuff of Hollywood movies.
We have just ONE dry-mounted, beautifully framed copy in stock!
At the time of publication in 1991 this iconic piece was considered one the most significant aviation prints to feature the B-17, partly due to the fact that it was signed by all EIGHT surviving crew members including their legendary leader:
- Colonel Robert Morgan
- Captain James A. Verinis
- Captain Charles Leighton
- Lieutenant Robert Hanson
- Sergeant Harold Loch
- Lieutenant C.E. 'Bill' Winchell
- Sergeant Casmir Nastal
