BREACHING THE DAM - Framed Collectors Piece
by Nicolas Trudgian
On the night of 16th May 1943, a small force of 19 Lancaster bombers from 617 Sqn set forth from RAF Scampton to embark on a mission that would live on in the history books for eternity. Under the command of Wing Commander Guy Gibson they achieved what Bomber Command supremo, Arthur Harris, had earlier described as impossible: They breached the mighty dams in Westphalia, causing massive disruption to industry and the re-deployment of troops and workers.
Recreating events on the night of the raid, Nick's rare piece depicts a pivotal moment as Guy Gibson's Lancaster he skims the dam’s flak tower whilst attacking the Möhne.
