The spacesuits worn by astronauts on spacewalks are considered far more than just a set of clothes, really they are a one-person spaceship!
Astronaut John Young, depicted here is Alan Bean’s superb piece comments; “I can't speak too highly for the pressure suit. Boy, that thing really takes a beating.”
The suits provide many of the functions of a spaceship including the flow of fresh air, maintaining a sustainable pressure and vital radio communications. The lack of a rocket engine is one of the only exceptions!
