August 17 / 18, 1943 - German fighters and British bombers battle above the research station at Peenemünde to decide the fate of the Nazi V weapons...

The Peenemünde Raid, codenamed Operation Hydra, was a daring and pivotal mission carried out by the RAF Bomber Command on the night of 17–18 August 1943. Targeting the German rocket research facility at Peenemünde, this operation aimed to disrupt the development of the V-2 rocket, a groundbreaking weapon of the era. Over 596 bombers participated in the raid, striking key areas including the research facilities, living quarters of scientists, and production sites. Despite heavy losses, the raid delayed the V-2 program and marked a significant blow to Germany's secret weapons initiative. This heroic mission stands as a testament to the bravery and precision of the Allied forces during World War II.
