TARGET BEARING 270°
by Robert Taylor
At sunrise on 12 November 1944, Lancasters of 617 Squadron form a loose formation. Led by Wing Commander James Tait, their target is the mighty German Battleship Tirpitz, lying in the Norwegian fjord at Tromsø.
This was their third and final attack and direct hits with their “Tallboys” finally brought about the demise of the pride of the German Fleet.
