WE WERE A BAND OF BROTHERS - Original Oil on Canvas
by John D. Shaw
5 June 1944 at Upottery Airfield, England, gilded in the evening’s glow, Lt. Richard 'Dick' Winters confers with his Band of Brothers, the paratroopers of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne.
Soon, these young men would parachute into German-occupied France, to spearhead Europe’s emancipation.
Winters holds a letter from regimental commander Col. Robert Sink, that states, “Tonight is the Night of Nights. Tomorrow throughout the whole of our homeland and the Allied world the bells will ring out the tidings that you have arrived, and the invasion for liberation has begun.”
