EAGLE SQUADRON SPITFIRE - Original Pencil Drawing
by Richard Taylor
An Eagle Squadron Spitfire dives out of the sun on returning to base at North Weald in September 1941 after another close encounter with Luftwaffe fighters high over the Channel.
Under American law, in 1940 it was illegal for United States citizens to join the armed forces of foreign nations and yet many hundreds of American citizens volunteered to fly with the RAF and RCAF, in fact they even formed their own squadrons – the Eagle Squadrons.
Richards superb piece, featuring a Mk.Vb Spitfire from 71 Squadron, serves as a lasting tribute to those brave American ‘Eagles’ and has been framed to full conservation standards to include the original autographs of two such volunteer pilots:
- Lieutenant Colonel JIM GOODSON DFC
- Colonel Steve Pisanos
- Media:
- Original Pencil
