ERWIN ROMMEL - Original Acrylic on Board

An original portrait by Tom Porta depicting Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, one of the most recognisable German military commanders of the Second World War.

Porta approaches the subject in his distinctive contemporary style, combining a carefully observed likeness with loose brushwork, distressed surfaces and areas of abstraction. The result feels deliberately removed from conventional military portraiture, giving the historic image a more modern and expressive quality.

Rommel became particularly associated with the North African campaign, where his command of the Afrika Korps earned him the enduring nickname “The Desert Fox”, before later taking responsibility for German defences in northern France ahead of the Allied invasion of 1944.
