DAMBUSTERS - LAST MOMENTS OF THE MÖHNE DAM - Commemorative Card
by The Commemorative Card Collection
Guy Gibson and Mick Martin had both made successful runs, and ‘Hoppy’ Hopgood had been shot down in flames, yet the walls of the Möhne Dam stood firm. It was now the turn of ‘Dinghy’ Young. With his Lancaster straining to clear the parapet, Young’s mine will explode with a violent detonation against the dense granite walls, at last cracking open the dam’s defences. David Maltby will successfully complete the breach behind him, sending a torrent of water cascading into the valley below, during Operation Chastise on the night of 16/17 May 1943.
