DAWN OPERATIONS - Framed Collector's Piece
by Robert Taylor
Robert Taylor's limited edition Dawn Operations captures a typical Pacific wartime scene during one of those few tranquil moments when conflict seems a million miles away. As dawn breaks over the naval base on the Shortland Islands, off the southern tip of Bourgainville, a Mitsubishi F1M2 float plane is readied for its first reconnaissance flight of the day. Overhead a pair of A6M Zero fighters from a nearby carrier head out on patrol. Lying peacefully in the harbour a pair of cruisers prepare to sail. It is October, 1942.
This was the very first Robert Taylor print to be authenticated exclusively with the signatures of Japanese aircrew from World War II. Combining Robert's mastery with the rarity of these signatures, the edition continues to prove extremely popular whenever we're lucky enough to have a copy in stock!
Adding further historical value, our expert in-house team have matted in the original autographs of TWO highly-regarded Japanese pilots, including the Imperial Navy‘s fourth-ranking ace and Japan‘s leading fighter pilot to survive the war, Saburo Sakai! The complete list of signatures reads:
- Second Sub Lieutenant Sadaaki Ohnishi
- Pilot First Class Keiyu Takakuwa
- Sergeant Major Toyomi Toyoshima
- Lieutenant Junior Grade SABURO SAKAI
- Petty Officer 2nd Class Shiro Ishikawa
